5 Morning Rituals To Incorporate
I used to be a night owl. Hell, at one point in college, my sleeping schedule was 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM. However, I then discovered the power of mornings. Now I would choose an early morning over a late-night hands down. These simple rituals will supercharge the mind, body, and spirit, helping you to tackle your day.
Scrape your tongue.
Tongue scraping is a dental practice rooted in Ayurveda. It’s one of the first things I do each morning. I brush my teeth and then scrape my tongue using a copper tongue scraper. Here’s why. Tongue scraping improves digestion and taste, helps maintain the oral microbiome, cures bad breath, and leaves your mouth feeling clean for the rest of the day.
Meditate.
The word meditation simply means “to become aware.”
I meditate daily, almost every single day. Meditation has become ingrained into my wellbeing and is a staple ritual for my mental health. On the off chance that I forgo my morning meditation, (because sometimes life is like that), I find myself carving out time to meditate during the afternoon. Whether it’s a meditation in my house, a closet at work, or in a parked car in the back of a dark alley. Meditation helps regulate the nervous system, bringing us out of fight or flight, back into the present moment. I love the app headspace.
Hydrate.
Our bodies go a considerable length of time without ingesting water while we sleep. Science has shown that drinking a glass of water upon rising helps to activate our internal organs. Adding half a lemon or lime (I prefer lime) to 16 ounces of purified water is a great way to hydrate, purify, and revitalize the body each morning. Plus, this simple ritual is a powerhouse for delivering natural sources of Vitamin C, Vitamin B, and minerals back into the body. A few of the many benefits of lemon/lime water include alkalinization of the body, detoxification, promotion of (healthy) weight loss, boosting of the immune system, regulation of blood pressure and body temperature, and everyone’s favorite, anti-aging.
Celery juice has become synonymous in the health and wellness community in recent years. So much so, that this ritual deserves its own post. However, for now, I’ll keep things short.
The celery juice movement was founded by the alternative healer, Anthony William also known as The Medical Medium. Keeping it simple, the healing power of celery juice lies in the plant’s mineral salts. Williams has documented that these salts strengthen digestion, calm inflammation, charge electrical impulsive activity throughout the body, balance the body’s PH, reculture your gut, and unlock stored emotions trapped in the body.
Get moving.
Movement doesn’t have to suck. More importantly, it shouldn’t. Movement is one of the many ways we can express our essences. Whether it’s a few stretches, a quick walk around the block, a yoga practice, an intense exercise, or naked jam session in the bathroom mirror, just get moving. You’ll feel more aligned and connected with your body as you move throughout the day.
